A new creature came to us on October 31 when we went on a walk that evening; a very tall Chihauhua who promptly got named "Pinky" by my husband-- who also said we couldn't keep him, LOL. Then our 2 year old struck and started calling him "my dog." My guides said that he was to stay with to us however, so I let it go and agreed to talk to the local animal rescue society on Monday. I also went around the neighborhood where he found us to ask if anyone was missing a little dog. So, we shall see how long his stay with us shall be--because now my husband wants to keep him...if no one else comes forward to claim him. The energy feels wonderful with him here, and I am thankful for however long his stay is. I definitly know how Dee feels about her new pooch and I am proud to stay I feel quite nearly the same about Pinky.

Awww, how old is Pinky do you think?
Can you feel a microchip around his neck anywhere?
Is he neutered?
It would be great for you to have a new addition to your family, but I'd hate to think of some other family missing their friend. I'm glad you're taking steps to find his owners. And if it doesn't work out with Pinky maybe he's opened the door to you guys getting a new puppy!

I am way ahead of you! I went to our local animal rescue organization and left a vague add with them in regarding Pinky. Anybody calling would have to give me a detailed description of him so I would know they were serious. Well, early this afternoon a local woman called and it turned out that Pinky was hers. Thankfully my youngest daughter was asleep at the time, though she still cried when I explained to her later that Pink's real momma had come for him. The woman gave me the reward money they were going to post for his return. That was totally unexpected, but am grateful because it allowed me more space to buy some groceries.
His brief visit with us has opened a door. I talked with my husband about getting Crystal a puppy because she has trouble getting out of her shell around others, mainly due to the nature of her older sister. At first he said no, then we talked some more and he said ok and agreed to our previous terms we had with the possible adoption of Pinky; Three of the outdoor cats need to be adopted out. So I said alright, help me find a puppy for her. So out a driving we went, off to cash the unexpected check. When my kids and I came out of the bank we ran into some aquaintances, the son and wife of my daughter's councelor. I told him what we were looking for in a dog/puppy. He agreed and offerered us one of their soon to be born purebred Dachsunds. I told him the puppy needed to be free, and he said that when they are born I can have the first pick of the litter as a gift. They are going to be ready to go almost exactly at Christmas time. We are going to surprise Crystal with the puppy at the councelor's office with a little ribbon. She has no clue! What a delightful gift indeed! She was so very good with Pinky, even though he was a very fragile dog, that I think she will just love and care for a puppy as well. Gods, Chrsitmas can't come any sooner!

Yes, she was. Though this isn't the first time he had escaped. I am hoping she is learning something too, if for nothing else than the little dog's health and well being. He is a very special little dog.

LMAO a little late... I lose track of whole days sometimes.
Well, life is a strange thing; sometimes you choose and and sometimes you are chosen. The two are interchangeable and wholly connected. We have had some intersting times with stray dogs over the last few days. And then came the most recent: a wire haired mixed breed. For once I actually knew where this once belonged, and we took a walk down the street to return him. However when we got to his house and talked to his owner of sorts, out of my mouth with near no thought comes the question: "Is he adoptable?" Long blink from the lady in the doorway who replies after a second that yes he most certainly is. Now, hours later, after a long walk and a good bath the new puppy is sleeping soundly in bed with my husband. He is such a wonderful creature that my husband has declared that I am never to find him another home. He is smart, quiet and graceful. We named him Benjamin, or Ben for short. So tomorrow I will have to talk with my friend about his Dachsunds and give my apologies. I am sure he will understand.

Whew! After a vet visit that I thought was going to end with Ben having to be "put to sleep" I am happy to say that he is hail and well. A person from the local rescue society took one look at him when we got there and said she would like to have him treated for a couple of days. When I told I couldn't afford the treatments she told me not to worry about it. We got to bring him home the next morning...the assistant said that he would not stop barking and that any dog that can make that much noise is well enough to go home, LMAO!

That is wonderful news!!
So did they know what was wrong with him? And can you get him some vet insurance?
I got some great coverage for Max, it's for accidents/illness and dental, the monthly rate isn't too much, our deductible is big though I'm going to change the plan a bit to get it lowered. It's just peace of mind knowing that if he gets sick or hurt 80% of his vet visit will be covered.

That's a thought.... Though I am not sure we can do another bill at the moment. I will still probably look into it due to having so many critters.
Ben is being treated with just meds now for Parvo. He is one of the lucky ones. And so are we for the vet bill being covered as we caught the illness very early on.
